Fuse box upgraded to a modern RCBO board
Old rewireable board out, full RCBO protection in, everything labelled and certified.
About this service →Full and partial house rewires across Bristol by an NICEIC-registered electrician. Honest price ranges, minimal mess, staged work for lived-in homes.
A rewire is the biggest electrical job a house can have, and the one where the difference between done properly and done cheaply hides behind your plaster for the next forty years. I rewire homes across Bristol, full and partial, with every job tested, certified under my NICEIC registration, and notified to Building Control as the law requires.
Age is the first clue: original wiring from before the mid-1970s is overdue a hard look, and rubber-insulated cable from before the 1960s is overdue full stop. Then the symptoms: a fuse box with rewireable fuses, sockets on skirting boards, fabric-covered flex, two-pin outlets, no earth at the lights, or an EICR full of C2s that all trace back to the cables rather than the fittings. None of these on its own is a verdict. An inspection is; a rewire quoted without one is a guess dressed as a price.

Every circuit comes out and new cable goes in: sockets, lighting, cooker, shower, smoke alarms, the lot, finished at a new consumer unit. Floors come up along cable runs, walls get chased where sockets move or multiply, and the plan gets agreed room by room before anything is lifted, including where you want sockets in ten years, because now is the cheap moment to add them. Making good the chases is included; final skim and decoration are yours or your decorator's, and I'll say so in the quote rather than let you discover it.
Send a few photos — the fuse board, a socket or two, the loft if you can — and I'll tell you honestly whether you need one, and what it would cost.
Legitimate when part of the installation genuinely is newer: a kitchen extension wired in 2015 doesn't need ripping out because the 1968 lighting circuits do. The test results decide the boundary, not optimism. Where a partial makes sense I'll quote it; where it's a false economy that leaves half the risk in the walls, I'll tell you that instead, with the readings that say so.

Not every job is a rewire. A new circuit for a garden office, a shower, a cooker or a kitchen island is a day's work with an Electrical Installation Certificate at the end of it, not a lifted-floorboards fortnight. If that's your actual need, say so and I'll price the circuit, not the house.
These are estimates, not quotes. Final costings always follow a free site inspection — and jobs often come in under the estimate, never over without you agreeing it first.
| Property | Estimate |
|---|---|
| 2-bed house | £3,400–£4,100 |
| 3-bed house | £4,000–£5,000 |
| 4-bed house | £5,600–£6,600 |
| Partial rewire | from £1,200 |
How that compares: Bristol averages for a full rewire sit around £4,800 for a two-bed, £6,200 for a three-bed and £7,700 for a four-bed. The estimates above come in roughly 15–20% under that — one pair of hands, no sales staff, no premises to pay for.
The variables that swing it: occupied or empty (empty is faster and cheaper), wall construction, floor access, how many points you add, and spec of fittings. Indicative ranges, confirmed in writing after a walk-round. The rewiring cost guide breaks the numbers down properly.

About this service →
Lighting positions planned with the customer before a single cable went in the trench.
About this service →
Two C2s found at a landlord inspection; both remedied and a satisfactory report issued five days later.
About this service →Yes, most are. It's slower and dustier than an empty house, and the quote reflects that honestly, but you keep power to the essentials each night and we agree the room order around your life.
Within reason, yes. Circuits don't follow room boundaries exactly, so "staged" means planned zones with power maintained where possible, not one perfect room a week.
Chases are filled flush as standard. Skim-finishing and redecorating aren't included, and any quote that's vague about this is storing up an argument; mine puts it in writing.

If the job turns out to be something related, it's probably in the same visit — or see every service.

Tony is reliable, professional, and delivers exactly what he says he will. The only thing that was different between the quote and invoice was the price; he automatically submitted a smaller invoice as I am guessing the job was easier than expected.Customer in South Gloucestershire, via Which? Tony was really helpful, friendly and a professional service. Explained everything in a way I could understand. Left everything clean and tidy and a fantastic job done, at a great price.Customer in Bath and North East Somerset, via Which? Trusted Traders, July 2026
Tony checked our electrics, which unfortunately turned out to be well past their sell by date, requiring a full rewiring of the house whilst we lived in the house! […] Communication and advice was great, and would recommend him highly.Customer in South Gloucestershire, via Which? Trusted Traders, March 2025
